A loan helped to expand her tea room business.

Alinafe's story

Alinafe is a 25-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her husband in Phalombe district in Malawi.

With her previous Kiva loan, she started her own tea room. She used the profit she earned to buy 20 bags of maize and five bags of rice.

Alinafe is now requesting another loan to expand her tea room business. She plans to use the profit she earns to support her family's basic needs and pay for her daughter's school fees.

She will repay the ‘social interest’ on her second loan by volunteering three hours per week as a Camfed Business Mentor, leading sessions to teach less experienced local women how to become successful entrepreneurs by developing their business acumen and sharing the lessons she learned from operating her business.

This loan is special because:

It is a 0% interest loan for young women with new businesses.
