A loan helped to purchase more wet vanilla beans.

Jacklyn's story

Jacklyn is from Lumi an inland village in Sandaun Province. She is 32 years old and married with one child. She is engaged in buying wet vanilla beans from her village and from the neighbors.

She is a vanilla grower and also a buyer. Jacklyn is more experienced now in selecting quality vanilla beans and how to dry the wet beans prior to selling to the vanilla factory.

She has her own weighing machine to weigh the beans and buy at her own price for drying. The vanilla factory also has their own buying price and so Jacklyn had to learn to do her mark up prices in order to make a profit.

She has a good cash flow income when she sells to the factory. Jacklyn sometimes travels to PNG and the Indonesia border accompanied by her child to sell in Jayapura.

She has been wise to save money in the bank which qualified her to acquire this loan. From this loan she will expand her business by buying more wet vanilla beans in the neighboring village.

Her plan from her increased profits is to save more money to venture into other businesses.

This loan is special because:

It improves market access and livelihoods for rural farmers.
