A loan helped buy more raw food.


Hanifa's story

Hanifa is 40 years old and lives in the town of Kayunga in the Kayunga region of Uganda. She is married and has 7 children with 3 of them currently in school. For the past 4 years, Hanifa has been working hard to manage her food market, which sells raw food.

To help expand her business, Hanifa has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase of more raw food materials. This will help Hanifa to generate greater profits and take care of her children including paying school fees. Hanifa hopes that in the future she will be able to buy and start a business.

Hanifa is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Hanifa who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
