Razia (pictured with the raised hand) is a 37-year-old, married woman. Her husband is M. A., and they have two daughters. Both of their daughters are in the 7th grade. They live in a two-room brick house in an area called Mughalpura, which is located in Lahore, Pakistan. Lahore is the second-largest city in Pakistan, and it is famous for its history and culture.
She supports her family with her dye (coloring) clothes business. Specifically, she dyes different items of women's clothes, including shawls and shirts. She has been doing this work for over 6 years and has a good number of clients. Her husband operates a gentlemen’s beauty salon in the nearby market, where he provides services such as hair-cutting and facial treatments.
Razia has applied for a loan from a Kiva partner, Asasah, for her husband’s salon. He explains that he will utilize the loan proceeds to purchase beauty products such as creams, scrubs, and lotions. By doing so, he will be able to serve more clients and to thereby increase his business income. Razia is hopeful that her husband’s business will continue to grow after he utilizes the loan proceeds. She is a new loan applicant and this would be her first loan from Asasah.
