The Los Corrales community bank meets every two weeks in a town called Los Corrales which is a few minutes from Montecristi, a city with a rich prehistoric culture. The inhabitants of this town carry out a number of different business activities such as handicrafts and general commerce.
Letty tells us with a lot of pride that she is one of the founding members of the community bank and that she is very happy because it has helped her to grow her business and because the bank has helped all its members. She is 41 years old and has been married for 25 years. She has two children aged 25 and 17. The youngest lives with her and is in school. Her husband is a bricklayer.
Letty has a small restaurant in the neighborhood where she lives. She works Friday through Sunday from 8.00am to 3.00pm. She prepares fish and onion stew which is the most popular dish amongst the locals in her neighborhood and region. Her son helps her when he has any spare time.
This loan will be used to buy products for preparing her food, as well as two tables and eight chairs which she needs because sometimes her customers don't have anywhere to sit. Her dreams are to have a big restaurant and for her child to be a professional.
