A loan helped a member to buy ingredients for her food production recipes as well as potatoes, oil, and gas.

Princesas De Trapichitos Group's story

Thirty-two-year-old Agripina, mother of six-year-old twins who go to kindergarten, is married to a policeman. Two years ago she began her food business cooking fried chicken and potatoes from a food cart. She takes orders from her home. On Sundays, she sells in the local soccer field because there are many who attend and it is a good place to sell her delicious food.

With her second Kiva loan, Agripina can buy ingredients for her chicken and potatoes, as well as more chicken, oil, and gas. Part of her income will be earmarked for the continuing education of the twins.

Agripina is one of six members of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Princesas de Trapichitos” in the department/state of Quiche. These women have food businesses and convenience stores. They appreciate participating in the “Microcredit Plus” program of Friendship Bridge because it gives them a chance to get together and support each other at monthly meetings, participate in a relevant educational training (business, health, family, women) and have access to bi-monthly health care services, consults, and exams.

Both of these programs are essential to their success because they have limited formal education (Agripina went to school for six years) and health care is challenging to access in Guatemala. (The children in the photograph are children of some of the borrowers, who have authorized their appearance in the photograph).

Thank you, Kiva investors, for learning about Agripina and her friends!
