A loan helped us purchase a new pizza hood and ventilation system in order to reopen our 33 year old business.

Robin's story

My name is Robin and I am the owner of Galesburg Pizza King. I grew up nearby in this rural part of Southwest Michigan. My parents, Jim and Tootie Ritchie established Galesburg Pizza King in 1989, and my brother and I started working in the business when we were young adults.

As with all family-owned, small businesses, we have had our ups and downs, but mostly we were successful and felt appreciated by the community. We gave back to the community by employing scores of people over the years and supporting local youth athletics. Then, tragedy struck when my father died very suddenly in 2014 and I lost my brother the following year at age 53. Fortunately, my life partner, Bret, had just retired and was able to help out with the business. Then COVID hit. Bret and I both got very sick with the disease. I survived, but he did not. He died last September at 59. Within weeks of this, our landlords informed me that they needed my restaurant space for their own business and that I had 2 months to find and renovate a new space.

I have to admit that I was ready to call it quits, but my employees wouldn't hear of it. They have been phenomenal! They may not be blood family, but they are family. We found a wonderful, new location and were able to completely renovate it. Please consider helping us with our goal.
