A loan helped a member to buy sheep to resell.

Badiya Samecouta Mandingue Group's story

Souvaye, who is 50 years old, is president of the "Badiye Samecouta Mandingue" group, which means parent or relative. It is she who is wearing a white "boubou" (an African dress) and holding the rope attached to the sheep. She has been raising animals for 30 years now. She is married to a farmer and they have two grandsons, who are not at school. She lives in a region of Senegal, where she carries out her activity, and this is the case for the other members of the group too.

Souvaye, who is not educated, is a hardworking woman who dreams of increasing her herd in order to expand her business. She buys her sheep at the weekly markets. Then, having looked after them well, she resells them wandering around the markets, at a price which is beneficial to her. As such, she can satisfy her children's needs with regard to schooling, healthcare and food.

Souvaye is taking out this loan to buy sheep. She is often faced with her livestock being stolen or falling ill, which can create an obstacle to her achieving her objectives.

In this group: Souvaye, Banna, Yaye, Sira, Sira, Hawa, Mama, Kancou, Fatou
