A loan helped a member to buy sacks of beans and potatoes.

Ubuzima Group's story

Francoise is a client with the micro-finance institution Hekima and the president of the village group "Ubuzima." She is married, 49 years old, and a mother of 15 children, who are all in school. Her partner is a humanitarian worker.

Francoise sells beans and potatoes. She started this business 19 years ago with start-up funds she received from her husband. Later, she joined Hekima to support her business, which continues to grow. With this new loan, she is going to buy sacks of beans and potatoes, which will increase her initial capital. One challenge she faces is a lack of customers.

Francoise would like to see her children continue in school and to feed her family. Finally, she thanks Hekima and their partners for their support to business owners who lack access to banking services in the context of the global COVID-19 crisis. The photo includes only the group leader in order to respect social distancing measures in place due to COVID-19.
