A loan helped to purchase a biodigester to transform her farm into a sustainable business.

Rosbella's story

Rosbella has five children and lives in the rural region of Nandi Hills. Her dream is to create a cost-effective, sustainable dairy farm that she can pass on to her children and even her future grandchildren.

Rosbella is currently spending too much money on the propane required to heat the milk produced by her cows for pasteurization. With a Sistema Biobolsa biodigester, Rosbella will reduce her reliance on expensive and non-renewable LP gas and agrochemical fertilizers by processing the manure from her cows to produce biogas and biofertilizer, which will help both her wallet and the environment. This loan will help Rosbella install a 16-cubic-meter biodigester that will pay for itself after an average of two years.

The resulting reduction in operating costs will allow her to better deal with fluctuating and unpredictable milk prices, which will make it easier for Rosbella and her children to continue the generations-old tradition of dairy farming in Nandi Hills.

This loan represents 89% of the price of the biodigester. The remaining amount is paid directly by Rosbella.

This loan is special because:

It saves farmers money by transforming waste into biogas and organic fertilizer.
