I'm motivated to change my profession because I've been gravely impacted in the last 4 1/2 years by my mother's, daughter's, and son's deaths due to cancer which was overlooked and misdiagnosed due to the inequity and racism in the health field system. Their deaths didn't occur because of social economics or no insurance but a lack of concern. These inequalities exist across the spectrum of ages.
As an owner of a daycare, I have seen so many stressed-out parents who want to make a difference in their lives and those of their children. There's a high rate of maternal death and infant immortality in the richest country in the world, despite the incredible medical techniques available. The death rate among African American mothers and infants is double the rate of other communities.
Due to my passion to eliminate this disparity as well as my need to work with less unvaccinated populations (young children) due to the pandemic, I am transitioning my daycare into a parent-focused Doula service.

Business Description
I have been running a daycare for over 16 years and just transitioned from a group daycare to a smaller family daycare in December, reducing enrollment from 19 children to 3. Over the years, I have had a number of employees, creating partnerships with local organizations, and built relationships with members of the community, in which I have also lived for 39 yrs. I have had the pleasure of caring for most of the residents, I have gained their trust and feel loved and respected throughout the community.
I'm currently enrolled in the Perinatal Health Professional Training which is such a need in the community due to the issues mentioned above. My new business will help parents identify and care for themselves early in their pregnancy and post-pregnancy. Post care includes up to 1 year after pregnancy because many of these women die after childbirth because of complications, stress, and lack of care months after. This is my opportunity to make a difference in a growing inexcusable problem in my community and state-wide.
I will focus my services on the community where I live, where I have strong relationships with other daycare owners and nonprofit organizations that can refer expecting and new mothers to me. I will also serve surrounding communities where these services are needed. My services are covered by Medicare and Medicaid, so I will be able to serve families regardless of income.
What is the purpose of this loan?
I am applying for this loan to cover some of the costs associated with transitioning my business. I have a business vehicle that I used for the daycare and will continue to use to transport families to appointments and equipment, such as a massage table and oils. I would like to make some repairs to make sure it is in good working order. While I'm training I need books and supplies, my computer is in need of repairs. I would also like to advertise my new business and get a new website and other materials for marketing. This loan will greatly help my business with transiting and getting the information to proper individuals in need of support and care.

"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
