A loan helped to purchase more green bananas and cassava to increase her sales.

Alice's story

Alice is 35 years old and lives in the town of Matuga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is divorced and has 3 children who are all currently in school. For the past 10 years, Alice has been working hard to manage her grocery store, which sells fresh food.

To help expand her business, Alice has requested a loan of 900,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more green bananas and cassava to increase her sales. It will also help Alice generate greater profits and improve her standard of living by providing new clothes and food for her children. Alice hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land and build rental houses as a business.

Alice is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Alice who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
