A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer to improve harvests of maize.

Velma's Group's story

Pictured above is Velma, often described as an extremely reliable person. She is 35 years old and, as a group leader, represents her group of 11 farmers in the Lugari District of Kenya.

Velma is returning this season to work again with the One Acre Fund. This means that she is able to have access to quality training and acquire new farming methods, which is why she decided to join in the first place. Velma says that she is happy to have made that decision in 2013. Since then she has been able to consistently feed her family, improving her day-to-day life significantly. Velma will use the profits from this season to rent more land to cultivate crops.

The group will use this loan to purchase seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 8.5 acres..
