A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer to improve harvests of maize.

Esna's Group's story

Pictured above is Esna, often described as an extremely hardworking individual. She is 60 years old and, as a group leader, she is representing her group of 10 farmers in Lugari District, Kenya.

Esna is returning this season to work with One Acre Fund again as this means that she is able to have access to the best seed prices, which is why she decided to join in the first place. Esna says that she is happy to have made that decision because, since she first joined in 2016, she has been able to consistently feed her family, which has improved her day-to-day life significantly. Esna will use the profits from this season to rent more land to cultivate.

The group will use this loan to purchase seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of nine acres.

In this group: Esna, Mujuma, Kassyoka, Everlne, Dessy, Henry, Ebby, Edina, Edward, Sawenda

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
