A loan helped a member to buy a wood loom with its tools, and a variety of thread for her business weaving traditional clothing.

Dios Es Amor Group's story

The Maya K'iche women have been disregarded, discriminated against, and generally ignored much of the time. Micaela is one of these women. She is a 35-year-old Maya K'iche woman, and is married and the mother of three children between the ages of 3 and 13. She only attended school for three years.

From a very young age she would help her mother with the household chores after school, and arrange the thread. Some years ago she started to run her own business weaving traditional skirts. She is seeking her fourth loan to buy a wood loom with its tools, and a variety of thread.

Seven women make up the Puente de Amistad communal bank called Dios es Amor [God is Love]. They live in the department/state of Quiché. They have businesses such as raising chickens, turkeys, pigs and cattle; and weaving traditional skirts.

These women have received little education. Accordingly, they benefit greatly from the monthly educational trainings which are part of the program of loans, education and health services called Microcrédito Plus. They acquire effective business tools; learn about healthy habits, good nutrition and hygiene; and strengthen their businesses in these difficult times caused by Covid-19.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for your kindness in financing these essential loans!
