A loan helped to purchase modern farm inputs such as certified seeds and organic fertilizers in order to improve the quality of her output.

Margaret's story

Margaret, a 36-year-old single mother of three children, believes this is her opportunity to move forward with life and give her family a solid reputation. Thanks to her daily efforts, she's managed to give her family a good start.

Margaret has a farm in Eldoret, an area favorable for farming. She grows different crops and keeps a dairy cow. She also earns income from a personal business. She didn't have a formal secondary education and is content with farm life.

Margaret is seeking a loan through Kiva field partner, Juhudi Kilimo, which she will use to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer, to improve her farm. This will enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits and expand her business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around Margaret's village, is very challenging. Margaret is relieved to know there are institutions like Kiva helping enterprising women like herself. She's always working to improve her family’s living conditions.
