A loan helped to buy more fresh varieties of food, like maize flour, and a fridge for the restaurant.

Masitula's story

Masitula is 33 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She has 4 children, with 3 of them currently in school. For the past 3 years, Masitula has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Masitula has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh varieties of food, like maize flour, and a fridge for the restaurant. This will help Masitula to generate greater profits and improve on her family standards of living by providing them with enough food and also to buy some basic needs for her family.

Masitula hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land and build rental houses to add to her earnings.

Masitula is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Masitula who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
