A loan helped to buy enough crates of soda, sugar for the passion juice, energy drinks and drinking water.

Zam's story

Zam is 44 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has five children with four of them currently in school. For the past five years, Zam has been working hard to manage her beverage business, which sells soft drinks like passion juice, water and sodas.

To help expand her business, Zam has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy enough crates of soda, sugar for the passion juice, energy drinks and drinking water, and will help Zam to generate greater profits. Her production will increase and attract more revenue. She will manage to buy food for her family and also support her children. Zam hopes that in the future she will be able to own a wholesale shop of all beverages.

Zam is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Zam who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
