A loan helped to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizers, to enable her to grow more tea crops.

Zipporah's story

Hello, Kiva community! Zipporah, 38, is a hard-working farmer from a remote village in the Nyamira area of Kenya. She has a farm where she grows crops and raises livestock. She also earns some income from a personal business. She has never had a formal secondary education and is content with the farming lifestyle.

The Nyamira area is favorable for farming, so Zipporah is seeking a 35,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner, Juhudi Kilimo, to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizers, to enable her to grow more tea crops, reap maximum profits, and expand her business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around Nyamira, are very challenging, but Zipporah feels relieved knowing that there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like herself. She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions. Her biggest dreams are to become independent and to support her family by herself.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
