A loan helped to buy supplies and yarn to weave hammocks consistently through the coming year.

Thiva's story

Thiva is from a village in Phrae Province, Thailand. Like many women in her community, few options were open to her when she was younger. Her formal education ended with primary school. A hard, dependable worker, her only work experience was in the rice paddy fields of her home village and in the swidden corn fields on the mountains that hemmed in her village on all sides.

She was presented an opportunity to train with some of the other artisans in her community. Thiva decided she had nothing to lose and gave it a shot! Her skills have developed, and she now makes beautiful handmade hammocks!

Thiva's horizons have expanded as a result of becoming a hammock weaver. Empowered and liberated, she displays a new-found confidence and an eagerness to see her family advance. She has even been very active in promoting artisan hammock weaving to others in her village and beyond. This loan will help Thiva stabilize her hammock weaving income by ensuring she has supplies and yarn to weave consistently through the coming year.
