A loan helped to buy fertiliser and seeds.

Lilian's story

Hello, Kiva community!

Lilian is 30 years old and a hardworking farmer from a remote village in the Kitale area of Kenya. Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her 3 children a good start by providing them with a good quality education.

Lilian has a farm where she grows crops and raises livestock; she also earns some income from a personal business. She never had a formal college education and is content with the farming lifestyle.

The Kitale area is a favourable one for farming, so she is seeking a 70,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy farm inputs such as fertiliser and seeds to enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits, and increase her business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around Kitale, is very challenging, but Lilian feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like herself. She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions, but her biggest dreams are to become independent and support her family by herself and secure her children’s future.

Lilian is very grateful for your help and is looking forward to your trust.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
