A loan helped a small, woman-owned business acquire the equipment needed to grow and thrive.

Margaret's story

Hello, my name is Margaret May! I grew up in Elkton, a rural community in Tennessee. From a young age I knew that I wanted to create- it didn't matter what it was! With a family that encouraged my creativity, and two loving grandmothers who taught me to sew, I soon realized that fashion and costuming was the way I wanted to express myself.

I studied at Middle Tennessee State University where I further fell in love with design and costuming, consuming myself with it, and upon graduation took a gamble and moved to New York City. My goal upon moving was simple- I wanted to learn as much as could, and bring it back to the area I grew up in so I could one day make a difference.

So here I am, after a decade as a patternmaker, product developer and production manager in the fashion industry, in a position where I can do just that. I started Rose Hill Workshop LLC in May of this year, naming it after the hill where I grew up, on the farm where my parents still live.

Now located in Florence, Alabama, I am thrilled to work with designers and individuals (both locally and across America) to help their ideas come to life. At the moment it is just me working in my home studio, but with the right equipment I know I can grow and expand, helping others provide an income for their families.

There is nothing that makes me happier than to see someone's face light up when I am able to present them with exactly what they are looking for and to see the confidence that clothing can bring to people. It is what motivates me every day, pushing myself forward, one idea at a time.

This loan is special because:

It will help this entrepreneur upgrade equipment and expand their business.
