Hanifah's story

Hanifah is 26 years old and lives in the town of Mattuga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children who are all currently in school. For the past 3 years, Hanifah has been working hard to manage her restaurant which sells cooked food and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Hanifah has requested a loan of 1,200,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh varieties of food like maize flour, raw green bananas, bean sauce, and also pans and plates for the restaurant. It will help Hanifah to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing them enough food and also buy some basic needs for her family. Hanifah hopes that in the future she will be able to engage in commercial agriculture and trade.

Hanifah is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Hanifah who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
