A loan helped to purchase feeds and vaccines for hens.

Zulaika's story

Zulaika is 34 years old, married, and has four children, one of whom attends school. She lives in the town of Mattuga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. For the past 20 years, Zulaika has been working hard to manage her poultry farm.

To help expand her business, Zulaika requested a loan from BRAC Uganda for 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings, which she will use to purchase feeds and vaccines for her hens so as to improve the chicken meat and eggs. This loan will help Zulaika to generate greater profits and to buy food for her family. She will also be able to take care of her family's other basic needs such buying clothes for her children. She hopes that in the future she will be able to establish a bigger poultry farm.

Zulaika is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Zulaika who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
