Pappy's Handcrafted Candles was created in memory of my father who suddenly passed away in October 2019. My father, Kevin Sr., was a single dad raising 5 kids on his own. He taught his kids the value of family and love. My dad loved to have a candle burning. He would mix the candles when they got low to create his own scents. My dad was one of my best friends so his loss was very painful and hard to deal with.
I started making candles as a way to remember his presence and to relive those memories as a kid of him mixing up candles to make his own. I started back in August 2020 with just four scents. I did all my research and watched so many YouTube videos I lost count. I tested different products and wicks until I found the items I like the best. I started selling to my close friends and family to see how they liked the product. From those 4 fall scents, we then grew into 8-holiday scents. We now have over 40 scents that we offer. We have grown pretty fast and I predict we will continue to grow.

Pappy's Handcrafted Candles manufactures 100% soy candles and wax melts. We pride ourselves on providing clean-burning candles and melts to our customers. All of our candles are handcrafted by hand and come with a wooden wick for clean burning.
Currently, we are an online store only and all the products are made in the basement of my home. We are planning to open our first physical location in New Brighton, PA. I started this business in August of 2020, but we officially became an LLC in January of 2021. I opened this company to keep the memory of my father alive.
What is the purpose of this loan?
The purpose of this loan is to help bring Pappy's Handcrafted Candles out of a basement and into its own storefront. The funds requested will help with doing this. For our opening, we need to purchase furniture, display stands, supplies, starting inventory, POS accessories, updated lighting, paint, and ceiling fans. We will also use some of the funds for marketing and advertisement cost so our community will know we are coming into town.

When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
