A loan helped to expand her business by ordering more fish and opening a Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) express booth.

Mwenya's story

Mwenya is a 28-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her husband and children in Lusaka district in Zambia. She owns an Airtel and has an MTN mobile money business. She also sells fish at Kasumbalesa Border (a border town between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo).

With her first Kiva loan, she replenished her inventory which increased her sales and now her business is thriving.

Mwenya is requesting a second loan to expand her business by ordering more fish and opening a Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO) express booth.

She plans to use the profit she earns to invest in her community and reinvest in her business. Mwenya will repay the ‘social interest’ on her second loan by volunteering three hours per week as a CAMFED Alumnae Executive, focusing on the formation and strengthening of the CAMFED Association in various locations and institutions, and leading CAMFED Association activities that give back to the community.

This loan is special because:

It helps borrowers withstand negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
