A loan helped to buy cereals to resell and make more income for her family.

Joyce's story

Joyce is a 30-year-old mother of four school-going children and the perfect example of a truly hardworking woman. She is a mixed dairy and crop farmer who has farmed for many years. Through farming, she has been able to meet her family’s enormous demands.

Cereal trading is one of the most profitable ventures in her home village. She is seeking this loan to buy cereals to resell and make more income for her family. Unlike most microfinance institutions in Kenya that have imposed very complicated procedures for acquiring funds, which discourages smallholders, Juhudi Kilimo is working closely with Kiva to make the process easy and convenient for these farmers. Therefore, movement of funds in the rural communities has increased, alleviating rural poverty.

Joyce hopes that Kiva lenders will be inspired to support her with a loan to make her resolutions for 2021 achievable.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
