A loan helped to buy fertilizer to use on the corn crop expansion for this mom with a beautiful smile.

Caroline's story

Caroline is 41 years old and the mother of a child in school.

She started farming a few years ago on a small plot of land she acquired. On the farm she has dairy cows and a corn farm. Filled with determination to improve her family's conditions, while not being deterred by her poor financial status, Caroline has decided to expand her existing crop farm. She is kindly seeking a loan to buy fertilizer to use on her corn crop expansion.

Many smallholder farmers in Kericho suffer from a lack of access to reliable sources of financing. One objective that Juhudi Kilimo aims for is increasing the ease of access to farm inputs and income-generating assets for farmers. Through the intervention of Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva, inputs such as fertilizers and seeds have become more accessible to members of Juhudi Kilimo.

Because of the favourable weather and road conditions, Caroline will have an easy time transporting her crop products to the market. Loans are hard to come by in Kenya for small farmers with little, irregular income, and no solid collateral. A few organizations, such as Juhudi Kilimo, support farmers like Caroline.

Through this loan, Caroline's dream of seeing her child graduate from school will be achieved.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
