A loan helped to purchase a drum of benzene to better provide for her customers and increase her income.

Netty's story

Netty lives in a village located on the northern, coastal side of Efate island. Port Vila is located on the southern side. Her community was used as one of the Americans' little airstrips back during World War II. The community is very small, and the main industries are agriculture and fishing.

Vanuatu is going through its cyclone season. It has been difficult to earn income, as the weather has been very wet, causing crops to die and muddy seas. Netty is 58 years of age. She has her partner and five grown children who all live in their own home.

Netty has requested a loan to help her purchase a drum of benzene to stock up so she can provide for her customers' needs. She wants to get more drums of benzene. Demand has grown because one third of her community uses boats for fishing purposes. She has now been in this business for three years. She dreams of becoming one of the largest benzene suppliers in her village.

This is Netty's third loan with South Pacific Business Development (Vanuatu) Ltd. She has faithfully repaid her previous loans on time. Through her loans, Netty is motivated to expand her business so she can become a successful businesswoman.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
