A loan helped to increase the volume of her canteen stock and, also, to add more space to her canteen room.

Naomi's story

Naomi and her family used to be one of the many Fijian families that lived well below the national poverty line, but that did not deter the mother of three from working hard to send her children to school.

Over the years, Naomi managed to save enough to start a very small canteen from her home, selling a handful of goods just so she can earn a little bit more to support her growing children. Expansion plans were always held off due to a lack of capital, because Naomi spent all her profits on the education of her children.

Naomi humbly requests a loan to allow her to include more goods in her shop and, also, expand her shop space. The expansion of her business will increase her profits through increased sales and she will finally be able to afford to put aside some savings for her retirement and much needed home renovation.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
