A loan helped to repair his motorcycle and buy farm inputs for his farm.

Hillary's story

Wonderful Kiva community, this is Hillary, 24. He is polite, devoted, responsible, and hardworking. He is the second-born in a family of five and supports his siblings who are still in school.

He engages in farming and motorcycle transport to support his family.

Hillary hails from a region where farming skills are passed on from one generation to another. As he did not have many other alternatives to earn an income, he chose to venture into farming and also runs a transport business with the help of his motorcycle to boost his income. To support his family, he offers his produce to specific markets with specific needs, thus increasing his revenue.

The major challenge that farmers from his area face is access to quality seedlings and farm inputs. Hillary has applied for a 70,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner ECLOF KENYA, to buy farming inputs such as certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizer as well as hire labor. He will also use part of his loan to repair his motorcycle.

Greater profits from an increased yield will change his life and that of his entire household because he will be able to raise their living standards and pay for his sibling's education. Hillary has a great desire to succeed and hopes that Kiva lenders will listen to his request and help him better his life.

He thanks his lenders for their generous support and dreams of a stable future. His dream is to own more motorbikes and start a spare-parts shop.

It gives financial access to low income micro-entrepreneurs.
