A loan helped to buy farming inputs, which she will use to improve her production and make more income to support her family.

Diporah's story

Diporah (a first-time Kiva borrower) is a 42-year-old mother of two children living in Chuka, a remote area located on a gentle plain before the ascent into the central highlands of Kenya. She is a mixed farmer who has farmed for the past 13 years. Through farming, she has been able to support her family.

Diporah is seeking this loan to buy farming inputs, which she will use to improve her production and make more income to support her family. The COVID-19 pandemic has posed a significant threat to the economy of Kenya, causing a lot of uncertainties and disrupting food supply chains. Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, is in the front line combating this pandemic by supporting smallholder farmers and micro-entrepreneurs in this difficult period.

Diporah is hopeful that all Kiva lenders are adhering to the safety measures in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
