Cristina's Group's story

Cristina A. is from the village of Lullutan. She is 48 years old. Cristina is the leader of a 6-member loan group sponsored by ASKI. Although each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are collectively responsible for repaying the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. The official name of this borrowing group is Cristina A. Group.

Cristina is married and has 3 school-aged children. To make a living, Cristina owns and operates a general store where she sells a variety of different products in the local community. Cristina has been engaged in her business for over 22 years and earns approximately 9000 PHP a month from these activities.

In 2008, Cristina joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Cristina has successfully repaid a previous loan of 10000 PHP from ASKI. This previous loan was used to purchase additional products to sell. Cristina is requesting a new loan of 11000 PHP to purchase additional products to sell. This will be Cristina's fifth loan from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve/expand her business.

About ASKI:

ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 29 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly of farmers, fisherfolks and small entrepreneurs.
