A loan helped to buy farm inputs, such as hybrid seeds and fertilizer, to improve her output.

Yunice's story

Yunice, 44, is a farmer from a remote village in Nyamira, Kenya. She's happily married and they're blessed with lovely children. Her primary source of income is milk, and she also plants maize. Despite the back-breaking labor she puts into her farm, her income is not sufficient to meet the needs of her family.

She uses low-quality farm inputs. The biggest problem faced by farmers from her village is the huge discrepancy in their access to agricultural inputs, resulting in lower output and earnings for farmers than what they could be. To fix this problem, Juhudi Kilimo has partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholders around Kenya. Through these financial services, farmers like Yunice can take out loans and purchase farm inputs.

She's humbly seeking a loan to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and high-quality seeds. Your loan will enable her to improve her production through use of quality farm inputs. Her competitive advantage in the market will be evident after she receives this loan. Through this intervention, she'll be able to afford food for her loving family. Yunice thanks Kiva lenders for their kindness.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
