Emilie's story

My name is Emilie Victoria Viqueira Keller. I am from Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. My life is and has been all about focus, discipline and perseverance. I was a successful high performance athlete for the first half of my life, which led me to scaffold the way I have conducted the rest of my life, including our project, Casita Montessori de Mayagüez. In my early years, I joined the PACIFIC 10 – UC Berkeley, Tennis team as a full time student-athlete for NCAA-DIVISION 1 (1987-1991), in which I obtained the All American Award and my BA in Economics; I travelled the world playing professional tennis; I represented Puerto Rico in seven ‘Central American and the Caribbean’ and ‘Pan American’ Games and obtained 7 medals for my country; and I was five times Women Tennis Champion of Puerto Rico. In 2001, I obtained my MA in Planning (Economic and Urban) from the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras. Since 2004, I have been part of the Administration of Casita Montessori de Mayagüez, becoming Director in 2006.

I am all about passion and conviction; only if these two are present, I engage. Casita Montessori de Mayagüez is our passionate project which assists the development of children and young adults through a well-rounded, integrated active AMI-Montessori education. With much integrity, love and perseverance, our project has strongly developed for the past 16 years as the only non-for-profit Montessori School which offers Montessori education from 1 to 18 years old in Puerto Rico.
