A loan helped to buy farming inputs such as fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve yields and profits.

Eunice's story

Eunice is a mother of three children, living in Makutano. Her experiences in life have made her a very strong woman. She is a smallholder farmer who is a fighter. She is responsible, attentive and loving, and she is an exemplary mother. Since her children were born, she has raised and cared for them. She started farming four years ago. Throughout those years, she has gathered a lot of experience, and all good farming techniques are at her fingertips.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the foundation upon which an agricultural revolution is built. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizers and seed allocation by the government is far below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into assisting smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability.

Eunice is requesting a loan to buy farming inputs, such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve her farm's yield and make more in profits to support her family. Supporting her with a loan will be key in facing the financial crisis that has been brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
