A loan helped an elderly mom to buy fertilizers to improve her corn farm and to improve her life and help create hope in this season.

Melabu's story

Take a closer look at Melabu, a 61-year-old mom of eight. One would never know the hardship she has been through because she has always emerged victorious through all adversities.

Melabu lives in the Kitale area of Kenya. She is blessed with lovely children who are her greatest motivation. She perseveres because she wants to provide a better future for them.

The biggest obstacles to Melabu's success are the use of poor quality fertilizers and lack of chemical pesticides and herbicides. Juhudi Kilimo has partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholder farmers around Kenya. Through these financial services, farmers like Melabu can now buy productive assets and important agricultural products for use on their farms.

Melabu is seeking this loan to buy fertilizer to improve her corn farming. This loan will enable her to improve her corn production through the use of quality farm products. This intervention will help her fill the increasing demand for corn in the market and, in the process, generate more income to repay the loan debt and elevate her family's quality of life.

Be inspired and lend to her!

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
