A loan helped to buy farming inputs that she will use to expand her production, making more income to support her children.

Grace's story

Grace, 45 years old, is a mother of three children. She has remained very hardworking and always desires to achieve. She is a farmer and a very focused person who would give anything to see her family continuing to progress. Although she has had to experience many professional setbacks, Grace decided that she could not lose hope. At one point in time, she was almost rendered a pauper after she made losses caused by bad weather.

When she learned about Juhudi and Kiva from a Juhudi Kilimo loan officer, she became interested in the good work that Kiva does to support small-holder farmers. Grace is happy to have access to reliable microfinance, and she attended regular training sessions to learn about savings and loans.

At her farm, she keeps dairy cows and grows various crops. The main challenge that this enterprising woman has often complained of is the high cost of farming inputs in her area. Therefore, she is borrowing this loan to buy quality farm inputs (such as high-quality seeds and fertilizers) to improve productivity on her farm. With these inputs, Grace will be assured of a good harvest, which will consequently improve her income.

Lenders, if there is someone you should lend to, then that person is Grace. She will not let you down.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
