A loan helped to buy mulberry for her tapa making business.

Mele's story

Mele is 35 years old. She is a mother to four children and the wife of a farmer. They live in their own home.

Mele is running a business of tapa making, and she is a member of a tapa-making group of women in their village. They conduct the tapa making only once every week, enabling them to make efficient tapas, and also have time for other activities as well as family needs. Her business is the main source of income for her family. Mele prepares her tapas, then sends them overseas and also sells them at the local market.

She is hoping to use her loan money to buy mulberry for her tapa-making business in order to make more tapas, and earn more money.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
