Benjamin Kiptum's story

Benjamin S., born in 1955, is married to Stella, who is 51 years old and a nursing student in Washington DC. They have seven children aged between 10 years and 30 years old: Caroline, a 30-year-old post graduate student; Edmon, 27 and in university; Sylvia, 23 and a form four graduate; Gilbert, 21 and in University; Cornelius,19 and in form four; Christine Chesire, 15 and in form one, and Jepkurui 10 and in Standard Four.



Benjamin owns residential houses for rental purposes and he also runs a business consultancy firm which he started two years ago. He started the rental business ten years ago and he gets a monthly profit of Kshs 25,000 from all his business sources. His tenants are people who live in Kabarnet Town.



Benjamin was introduced to KADET by existing clients of the organization. He has applied for an education loan which he plans to use to pay school fees for his son Gilbert Kiptoo, who attends Kenyatta University in Kenya. This will not be Mr. Sergons’ first loan as he has a credit history with another institution.



He hopes to make a profit from his business investments and with it he will extend his commercial plot. In the future he hopes to construct more permanent houses for his tenants. Mr S. describes himself as hardworking and creative.
