A loan helped to buy more clothes to sell.

Scovia's story

Scovia is 22 years old and lives in the town of Rubirizi in the Kabwohe region of Uganda. For the past 4 years, Scovia has been working hard to manage her clothing sales, which sells second hand clothes.

To help expand her business, Scovia has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more clothes to sell and will help Scovia to generate greater profits. Scovia will be able to realise more profits and, therefore, she will be able to cater to her home's needs, hence improving on their standard of living. Scovia hopes that in the future she will be able to expand to a boutique.

Scovia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.

This loan is special because:

It offers training programs in life skills for young women.
