A loan helped a member to buy more spare parts to sell like side mirrors.

Shamila's Group's story

Shamila's group is comprised of two hard-working women. Shamila is 23 years old and lives in the town of Matugga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. For the past two years, Shamila has been working hard to manage her spare parts, which sells motorcycle spare parts.

To help expand her business, Shamila has requested a share of 2,700,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more spare parts to sell like side mirrors, and it will help Shamila generate greater profits. Shamila's business will expand, hence leading to more profits, and she will be able to support her family, thereby improving their standard of living. Shamila hopes that in the future she will be able to build a primary school.

Shamila is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.

In this group: Shamila, Dorothy
