A loan helped to buy foodstuffs for cooking at her restaurant to raise income to support the family.

Sofia's story

Sofia is 41 years old and a resident of Jinja. She is a single mother of seven children, five of whom attend school. She owns a small restaurant on the Jinja outskirts, which she has been operating for the last seven years. Sofia says that Kiva has been part of her journey, and for that, she will be forever grateful. This business has sustained her family and also funded her children's education. In addition to that, she is not worried about what her children will eat; therefore food security is guaranteed.

Her main clients are motorcyclists and passers-by. With the many youth joining the transport business in the region, the demand for her food has increased. To better serve her customers, she has applied for a loan of 1,300,000 UGX to buy foodstuffs that she will cook at her restaurant. Sofia will be in a position to serve more customers, which will better her finances. This will improve her children's livelihood.
