Amy's story

I’ve learned from the best: Grandma always made the best breads; Dad the best pies and cookies; My sister the best cakes. Most of my current recipes were vetted by these three mentors.

I can’t remember a time when baking or creating some kind of art wasn’t part of my life. Even when I was working in mental health as an art therapist and administrator, I baked monthly birthday cakes and treats for my employees and used baking and art as a therapeutic tool and family engagement activity with the children and families.

In 2009, my sister invited me to join her team for the Ultimate Cake Off. For the show's episode, I was responsible for painting, sculpting and drawing custom artwork for the cake. It was an amazing experience to be on a team of creative people and top bakers and we won! This jump-started my cake decorating career. In 2014, I left my job as an administrator in mental health and headed west to do an internship with my little sister. Upon my return, I started Sweetly Brooklyn.
