A loan helped to buy sugar, soap and rice.

Morious's story

Morious is 21 years old and lives in the town of Kasubi in the Nansana region of Uganda.

For the past year, Morious has been working hard to manage her retail shop which sells sugar, soap, rice and cooking oil. To help expand her business, she has requested a loan of UGX 500,000 from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy sugar, soap and rice, and will help her generate greater profits.

If Morious is able to realise more profits from her expanded business, she will be able to cater for her family's needs, hence improve their standard of living. Morious hopes in the future that she will be able to go back to school for further studies.

Morious is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.

This loan is special because:

It offers training programs in life skills for young women.
