Suzanne's story

I grew up in a beautiful, nearly idyllic community. My father was a teacher at a private high school with gorgeous grounds. I was surrounded by caring adults, fun loving teenagers, and childhood playmates.
When I was 9, my father quit his job. We moved to rural area of Alabama where our family was isolated. Unfortunately, my dad's mental health suffered. It affected my whole family. Still does.
As an adult, I cherish and value community. Therefore, for 15 years I moderated the largest and longest running discussion board related to yoga. I also participate actively in many other online groups.
What I observed was that while it's great to be in a community, often the group grapples with the same problems over and over again. That’s when the community needs to reach out to others who might have a fresh point of view on the problem – to get a bigger boat.
For example, in my yoga community, many people struggled to understand how to be effective teachers and how to start up their own studios. If only we had brought in someone skilled in teaching or in business to help us! We might all have successful yoga studios now!
My goal for gabb is to create a new kind of community that is based around learning, and around a philosophy that encourages people to reach out for more help whenever they feel stuck. I also want to help people create a sustainable lifestyle centered around developing their core teachings.
