Nusulah's group is comprised of 2 hardworking women. Nusulah is 19 years old and lives in the town of Matugga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. For the past 2 years, Nusulah has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells sugar, soap, salt, rice, maize flour.
To help expand her business, Nusulah has requested a share of 3,300,000 Ugandan Shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase sacks of sugar, rice, salt and maize flour, and will help Nusulah to generate greater profits. With this increased profits, she will be in a position to cater to her family's needs, hence improving on their standards of living. Nusulah hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land and build rentals.
Nusulah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
