A loan helped to purchase mulches for the banana plantation, to improve the yields.

Hawa's story

Hawa, 58, is married with five children, three of whom attend school. She is a mixed farmer, majoring in banana growing and cattle fattening.

Hawa says the previous funds enabled her to buy more cows, which she later sold at a better price and earned a profit that met family needs such as school fees and medical.

She realized that her banana plantation needs mulches to improve the yields, especially in this sunny season. She has therefore approached UGAFODE for a loan of 3,000,000 UGX to buy mulch for covering the soil surface. Hawa believes that if she harvests good yields, her earnings will increase, hence bettering her family's livelihood.

Long live UGAFODE and Kiva lenders for empowering farmers.
