Gorret's Group's story

Gorret's group is comprised of 3 hard working women. Gorret is 22 years old and lives in the town of Bulenga in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children, 1 of them currently in school. For the past 2 years, Gorret has been working hard to manage her food stall, which sells green bananas.

To help expand her business, Gorret has requested a share of 2,200,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy green bananas to sell, and will help Gorret to generate greater profits. Gorret will be able realise more profits and therefore, she will be able to cater for her children's needs, hence improving their standard of living. Gorret hopes that in the future she will be able to purchase a food stall in Busega market.

Gorret is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
