A loan helped to buy more fish to sell.

Prosper's story

Prosper is 17 years old and lives in the town of Kitintale in the Kireka region of Uganda. For the past two years, Prosper has been working hard to manage her fish selling, where she sells silver fish and dry fish.

To help expand her business, Prosper has requested a loan of 900,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fish to sell, and will help Prosper to generate greater profits.

Business will expand, hence more profits. Prosper will be able to cater to her family's needs, thereby improving on their standards of living.

Prosper hopes that in the future, she will be able to renovate her grandmother's house.

Prosper is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to micro finance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.

This loan is special because:

It offers training programs in life skills for young women.
